Condition of High Prarie Road 4410?

Post by mycelial matt » July 9th, 2020, 4:27 pm

Hello all. I am a new member to the discussion board who humbly seeks your assistance in planning a trip. I was hoping to reach the High Prarie trailhead via High Prarie Road 4410. In the past I have made it up in my ultra low clearance subcompact vehicle but I wouldn't want to risk it without reliable recent reports from those who have driven it, especially since the big storm on Saturday May 30, 2020. Thanks in advance. Happy trails.

I drove about half of it in mid-June, and it was fine. I have a tiny low-clearance car.

Thanks for the reply Adam. Would you please clarify if your trip in June took you as far as the parking area for High Prarie trailhead or the road junction adjacent to the parking area? The USFS reports washouts or potential washouts, so I want to err on the side of caution.

To clarify where Forest Rd 4410 lies, it is in Mount Hood National Forest. Has anyone driven up to High Prarie trailhead during the past month? Thanks.

No, I didn't go up that far.

It's worth noting that the text for road 4410 on the USFS roads table hasn't changed in a couple of years! But you can search the AllTrails page for the word "road" to find recent info: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/oreg ... tain-trail — looks to me like you'll be fine.

Thanks Adam.

For others who may not know, 4410 is called "Lookout Mountain Road" on Google Maps. I am still hoping someone can report the road's condition from 44 (Old Dufur Rd) to the trailhead parking area anytime since May 30, 2020.

Fine in a Mini Cooper on 6/16. There are some sections that are washboardy and a few potholes to avoid.
