Trinity Alps mid July - snow ok?

Post by ejh » June 11th, 2020, 1:07 pm

We are looking at a backpack into the Trinity Alps July 15-19.

For those that have been in July, should I be concerned about snow still melting out, or will it all be gone?

I have been to Marble Mountains a bit later in July a couple years ago, and there was no snow anywhere.

Thank you!

I went there mid June in 2016 and 2017 - snow at the passes like Deer Creek, but I got through

Mid July should be fine

http://adamschneider.net/hiking/snow_depth.html says no snow right now. But when it says that there's still probably snow at passes

Thanks Jerry. You confirmed what I suspected, based on my Marble trip in 2018.

hmmm...

that would be pretty good right now

the shasta trinity NFS website says it's open

I could take everything I needed with me except gas

I'll have to ponder whether I want to go that far away, so far I've stayed within half a tank of gas from home

Yeah. It is a within a day's drive (from Portland area at least). Like you said, only need a stop for gas along the way. Everything else goes with you from home.

Last time we were in the Marbles, we pretty much had the place to ourselves. I don't expect this to be much different, crowd-wise.

Should be fine. I’m doing Etna to Castle Crags in 2 weeks.

There is a Trinity Alps Facebook site. People have been reporting conditions for a while now. Its a forest service site. You can search for it that way.

The White Trinities are extremely crowded in the summer. I'm talking about Sapphire and Emerald Lakes. Tough to find campsites. The Red Trinities not so much - people like those granite-bound lakes. Go to the reds to avoid the crowds.
