First snowshoe trip to Mt Hood

I'm from Canada and usually visit in non-snow times but will be there in 3 weeks and bringing my snowshoes. What's a good/the best snowshoe trip of 5-7 miles? I think I understand the so park permit rules. Anything else I should know? Is the road usually ok with snow tires (no chains)?
