Has anyone hiked it this Summer? What condition is it in if so?

The USFS has decided to let that one be reclaimed by the Earth. :(

Officially closed. Photos taken June 1, 2019...

USFS in 2 years: "we've noticed a lot of people aggregating near devil's elbow in the last 2 years. As wilderness in the monument is a limited resource, we'll be instituting a permit for day hikes. There will be a sham comment period from the third waxing gibbous moon of the year until the Tuesday before the next full moon."

Just keep this in decommissioning in mind the next time you hear about people not 'disbursing' enough to the FS likings. You might think I'm joking but this is literally what they're doing in Willamette National Forest...

Well I hate that. Least I did get to hike it in 2017. Some great pics in that post you shared. Arent there hiking trails in the PNW that are as bad or worse than DE? FS gonna shut them down too?

Yeah, very disappointing. My understanding is that WTA offered to maintain it, but could only do so until the point at which it (again) required blasting... and the USFS didn't want to continue doing that.

You can still get to that viewpoint at the end, "legally," by wrapping back from the east side.

New (old) route officially bypasses Devils Elbow.
