Hi all,
I've been to the Wallowas a couple of times now, and know that there are limited hiking options for young children such as my son, an intrepid almost-six-year-old who can hike 3-5 miles on a good day. That said, I'm wondering if you might have any suggestions for us beyond the known kid-friendly hikes? Here's my short list so far, many of these out-and-backs that turn around when my young hiker is flagging:
Aneroid Lake (to first waterfall)
BC Falls
Buckhorn Lookout (to first viewpoint)
Chimney Lake (to slide waterfall)
East Moraine, Wallowa Lake
Hurricane Creek (to the gorge and back)
Imnaha Falls (to rock gorge)
Mirror Lake (to waterfall)
Mt Howard (via tramway)
Any other ideas that might prove interesting for a young'un?
Also, I called the ranger station in Joseph about huckleberry picking and received only one recommendation and a comment that the season doesn't really kick in at lower elevations until early-mid August. Do you have any suggestions for whenabouts and whereabouts might be good picking?

Re: Wallowas, kids, and huckleberries
I was walking along west fork Wallowa River trail a couple miles from trailhead and there were tiny Huckleberries forming. And maybe trail to Ice Lake. Early mid August sounds right.
