Middle Santiam Wilderness - 2 day trip

Post by Plaintiger » June 26th, 2019, 8:24 pm

I'm planning a 2 day, 1 night backpacking trip this weekend to donaca lake via the chimney peak trail off FR-2041. Looking for a good day hike on the 2nd day departing from donaca lake. Does anyone know what the hike to chimney peak from the lake is like? Length/elevation gain?. Any good views on any of the trails that intercept chimney peak trail?
Looking to hike about 12-15 miles round-trip the 2nd day (side trip beyond donaca + back to car @chimney peak trailhead)

I backpacked into Donaca Lake last summer but did not go farther. Only about seven trees down going into the lake, so some recent bucking had been done. I'm guessing the route to Chimney Peak should be obvious but there may be obstacles to circumvent - not a lot of routine maintenance into the middle of the wilderness. Give yourself a turnaround time and stick to it!
