Question About Matthieu Lakes Area

Post by WiredHiker » June 26th, 2019, 7:01 am

Wondering if anyone has been out to these lakes sense the fire. Did the area around the lakes burn? Seems to be right on the line of the fire boundary.

Thanks.

Getting to the lakes felt like walking through Armageddon last summer with lots of standing, dead, burnt out trees. But I think right around the lakes the trees are still alive.
Will break trail for beer.

Anyone have bug report from this area? Planning to go mid-July.

We were just there July 4th and the mosquitoes were pretty bad! We were day hiking and kept moving, so doable. Talked to overnighters that said they were bad. But right now the snow is just finished melting out in places, so they are always worse then. Benson Lk / Scott Mt was even worse, as there was still LOTS of snow up there...enough we were unable to make the summit.
