Mt. Jefferson Wilderness trailheads and snow melt

Post by jley » March 23rd, 2019, 8:28 am

Anyone have some first hand observations of the snow level in the forests SE of Mt. Jefferson?

In particular, I'm wondering how far I'd be able to drive up toward Canyon Creek Meadows trailhead, which is over 5000'. I know that'll be covered in snow... but I'm trying to figure how long of a slog it'd by in mid-April. By then, I'm hoping it might be melted to a few miles away - a manageable walk over the snow.

This trailhead is 6 miles from Jack Creek Campground, which is at about 3000ft... above the Camp Sherman area. I'm not sure when all that lower area around Camp Sherman typically melts out.
