Overnight backpack recommendation

I was planning to do an overnight backpacking trip to Lewis River, but the weather report looks lousy with lots of rain. I'm looking for recommendations within 2 hr drive from Portland that are on the east-ish side of the Cascades divide. Should be dryer over there. Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

That near to Portland and east-side of Cascades and accessible in mid-May? The standard reply would be Badger Creek. It will rain less on you there than Lewis River, but it will still rain. Nice hike, though. And a variety of campsites to select among.

Thank you - I wondered about Badger Creek. Great idea!

or Deschutes River is another standard

I wouldn't call the weather "lousy", just a chance of light rain :)

Fair enough; light rain isn’t sooooooo bad. Haven’t been to Deschuttes yet, a little afraid it may be crowded on the weekend, but still worth a shot. Thank you!
