Coast range snow??

Post by -Q- » February 8th, 2017, 8:13 pm

Hey there everybody,

Anyone have a recent snow conditions update for the coast range?? Thinking hikes off route 6.

Did elk and kings get a bunch of snow last weekend??
Saw the TR from the week before that showed mostly dirt to the top. Thinking I missed that window though.

What about low stuff like gales creek, storey burn, the wilson??

Thanks!!

From Gales Creek to Bridge Creek, it's under snow. :( This isn't normal for the Pacific Northwest, but it's a good thing with all the snow pack.

South Saddle Mountain (3150', on the Tillamook/Washington County border) reports 27" of snow.

The South Fork weather station (2119', a couple miles across Highway 6 from Elk/Kings) estimates about 6".

ODOT says "Roadside Snow: 10 inches" at Wilson River Summit on Highway 6.

So yeah, there's snow.

Nice, the Kalalau Valley from the Koke'e Road on the Island of Kauai. What trail(s) did you hike?

That's not from the road, it's from the Kalepa Ridge Trail... which somehow I'd never heard of, in seven previous trips to the island — but now it's one of my favorite trails in the world. One of these days I'm gonna write up a TR about it... as well as Hihimanu, which was insane.

Silver Falls looks good, lots of miles in the backcountry too.
