Fall hikes in NW

Post by dhaval257 » September 15th, 2016, 10:33 am

Hello,

I know this is early, but I was wondering if people throw some light on where/when to see fall colors?

Best fall weekend hikes ?

I was searching up on google and found that Deschutes River Trail, Opal Creek are generally good. Any more to add in the list ?

Thanks,
Dhaval

Siouxon Creek would be a good one but if you don't mind driving a bit further, the colors at Ollalie Lake look spectacular right now, and I would be willing to bet that the Metolius River isn't too far behind it.

The Mt. St. Helens blast zone is excellent for fall color, because it's mostly decidious shrubs like huckleberries and mountain-ash. (Overall, the Pacific Northwest is not too spectacular in the fall color department because of all the evergreen conifers.)

I recommend the Norway Pass and Coldwater Peak areas of Mt St Helens National Volcanic Monument.

Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.

Tamanawas Falls is a nice fall hike, usually the first week of October or so.

Silver Falls - bonus, if it is too wet for a good color year, the waterfalls will be in fine form...

Karl - You put those goats through the washing machine before you took that photo. According to PETA that is cruelty to animals and I have reported you!
Some people are really fit at eighty; thankfully I still have many years to get into shape…
