Indian Springs/Benson Camp Conditions

Post by keemery » August 11th, 2016, 6:15 am

Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone has been by Indian Springs Campgrounds recently? We are also looking at staying a night at one of the Benson Plateau Camps, either Camp Smokey, Benson, or Hunters Camp. Any recommendations out of those three or any reports?

We are looking at heading out Wednesday the 17th and spending three nights around there, so any recommendations are appreciated.

Thanks!

Camp Smokey has two spots, right next to trail, I didn't think it was so good. Tiny stream.

Benson Camp has maybe 5 spots a little further off trail, and Ruckel Creek trail there isn't real busy. Better stream, although I'm not positive there's water now. Next time I'll camp there.

I wasn't impressed by campsites at Wahtum Lake. Too many people there. Close to road so probably noisy people in the evening drinking adult beverages :)

Since you're starting Wednesday, Wahtum Lake shouldn't be so busy. I've never seen Benson Camp dry out, though the water can get stagnant late in the season, and it can get buggy. I passed by Camp Smokey the other day but did not head down to check on the water.

I was just up on Benson Plateau 7/30... Hunters Camp, Benson Camp sites and Smokey Camp all were cool.... Ruckel Creek still had plenty of water... did not check Smokey Spring/Camp. There are some bugs, so I did use some lite bug spray, but I wasn't really bothered. It was really beautiful! Only saw one human, during a 22 hour period up there.

As usual on the Plateau, I heard what I think are owl sounds, around sunset.
