I second what BigBear said. If you don't mind upping your travel time to a three-hour drive, there's nothing better than a one-night backpack at Snowgrass Flats with an Old Snowy summit in the a.m. That being said, check the weather and the trip reports because it could get nasty. Camping near South Sister or Three Fingered Jack (Canyon Creek Meadows comes to mind) would be my backup. Mount Margaret Backcountry is a good closer option.
