Trinity Alps Four Lakes Loop- Long Canyon vs Stoney Ridge ?

My husband and I are heading for the Four Lakes Loop next week, and wondering if any who have been there can give us guidance as to which trailhead to go in from. We have 4 nights, and prefer not to do more than 6 miles with the packs on (hubby has creaky knees and I carry too much camera gear...). What are the camping options along the trail if we go the longer route on Stoney Ridge? How is the camping in Siligo meadows? Other spots to camp for night one on the Long Canyon Trail?
