Tilly Jane A Frame
Tilly Jane A Frame
My wife and 10yo and I are headed up to the A frame on 3/15/14. Just wondering if any one has been up there recently ? We all have snow shoes. But some where I read that the road was closed due to tree limbs. How many miles is the walk ? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance...

Hi.
The road should be open as far as the Cooper Spur winter sports area, which is where the trail to Tilly Jane begins. Only the portion of the road to Cloud Cap is gated, as far as I know.
The route from the ski area to Tilly Jane is about 3 miles each way, and you will have about 2000 feet of elevation climb on your way in. The route is marked with blue diamonds high up on the trees for winter travel but I have not been there myself in the winter and don't know how obvious the trail will be in the snow.
Probably give the folks at the Oregon Nordic Club a call if you want more detailed directions and other things you need to know for your reserved stay.
Have fun.

Re: Tilly Jane A Frame
I was up there last weekend. The road is 9+ miles and the trail is about 3 miles. The road is closed in summer due to tree clearance and is closed now due to snow - to cars of course. You can always walk that way if you want. But the road does not lead directly to the A-Frame, while the trail does.
You probably will need those snowshoes given the warm conditions that are forecast, but it's still over a week away. Last weekend the snow was 2-3 feet deep up there.
