Anyone know if that Nestucca River Back Country Byway route is driveable in winter? Heading into the Coast Range tomorrow and kinda want to come back that way so I can drive a loop and save 50 miles coming home. I'm not even sure what the high elevation point of the road is.
Thanx if anyone knows
Nestucca River Back Country Byway driveable now?
Re: Nestucca River Back Country Byway driveable now?
Okay, I got the answer and it's pretty much, 'no' for now. The high point is 2200' and the BLM offfice said it's likely covered by snow. But under more normal conditions it is okay for winter driving. Oh well, I guess Niagara Falls is out for tomorrows' destination..
Just in case anyone else ever needs to know it'll be buried here for them to find..

Good info Gene. Niagra and Pheasant Creek falls were my destination several weeks ago. Luckily i logged into PH's while waiting for my son to get around. That was the day the loonies got stuck on highway 6 in the snow. I figured the nestucca was snowed in too, but had no idea what the summit was. Now I know.

Nine years later and I have the same question. Is this byway clear right now?

I drove it from Carlton to Beaver last Saturday. Totally clear. You can see a couple of spots where people have cut and removed fallen trees
