I think it goes to running state parks.

Conversely, state parks do not use any general funds, are totally supported by fees.

That's the problem - there aren't enough fees to cover their expenses so they keep trying to find some way to increase fees.

California is worse - they keep closing parks and charge $35 per night for tent sites. Oregon and Washington charge about $20.

Excellent value, Van -- that's just $0.90/mile to walk on your own land..! ;)

(nice pics, as always!)

Maybe this is something to ad to the field guide like Larch Mt. Sherrard point .3 miles one way five dollar daily forest pass=$8.33per mile.

And people give me grief for the cost of downhill skiing

Thanks! Sort of the Prius-way to look at hiking - not mpg but mp$? Doing the bigger loop around Hamilton and Hardy (Big Loop) could get the cost down to near $0.8/mi. Of course, this is nothing compared to a loony hike, where you'd be dividing insane mileage by zero cost.

But how do you factor in the cost of the arthroscopic surgery?

Exactly. I refer to those quote from another post: "Today after just a little 31.5mile ish loony hike my feet felt broken"
