This is such a great hike and now is especially nice with a little snow and lots of wildflowers.
The Top spur trail head to McNeil point is one of my favorites on Mt. Hood. This trip was even made more special because I ran into a celeberty of sorts named "retired Jerry"! He told me this is one of his favorite hikes as well. Someday I hope to retire early and be a hiking machine like him.
What a day!

Always great to run into portlandhikers.org people!
Now I get it - Tito is your dog - very cute by the way - and pretty amazing that a tiny dog can go all that way
And you have to be careful with me, I have many favorite hikes
Did you go back the way you came or did you go down the steep route off McNeil?

I can't remember what the outcome was...but has pdxhikers come up with a sticker or tag we can put on our packs IDing us as pdxhikers? I think that would be a great convo starter and way to increase traffic to the site!
Either way, great pics and nice to see the flowers are finally out. I did this hike last July 29th and the flowers looks remarkably similar to what your pics show.

I guess "retired jerry" did not need a sticker or a tagweathercrazy wrote:I can't remember what the outcome was...but has pdxhikers come up with a sticker or tag we can put on our packs IDing us as pdxhikers? I think that would be a great convo starter and way to increase traffic to the site!

We went backwards and came down the steep route. Going up that way is much smarter.retired jerry wrote:Always great to run into portlandhikers.org people!

Ok, I guess you are not going to disclose your secret favorite hikes!

Re: Yes, yet another McNeil Point posting!!
I've written trip reports for all my favorite hikes
The only hikes that are secret would be illegal ones, like maybe if you continued on the Tanner Butte trail over to the PCT through a short section of forbidden Bull Run, that would be secret, but I haven't tried it yet. Maybe I'll go up there and see how threatening looking the no trespassing signs are.
