Zigzag Overlook from Timberline Lodge - 07-28-2011

Post by AFLitt » July 29th, 2011, 12:11 pm

Snow, of course, is still an issue. The trail is still almost completely covered, but we were able to follow tracks through the snow for over a mile before they grew scarce a couple hundred yards past Little Zigzag Canyon. Still, it was very pretty and a lot of fun, the snow adding to the experience rather than detracting.

Unless there are tracks to follow, though, I wouldn't go. Not knowing the trail well, my first time on it, it would be very easy to get lost out in the snow. As I said, we gave up when the tracks became too scarce, and the few left went wandering in different directions. It was probable somewhere around the Hidden Lake Trail Junction, though it was hard to tell by that point if we were even anywhere near the actual Timberline Trail or not.

It's almost August.

Some places might not melt off entirely at all this year.

I'm thinking the same thing... has that ever happened in recent memory?
