Camassia Natural Area 6.26.11

Post by IDratherbehiking » June 26th, 2011, 4:55 pm

This was my first time to Camassia and there were some impressive highlights on the day here. Camassia Natural Area is famous for its flowers and there are some Camas Lily in bloom right now; in all honesty I thought that I would see more flowers today but it seemed like most of them were out of bloom.

There is an exceptional view of Mt. Hood at a certain spot along the trail, then you come up to an exposed ancient basalt rock field where you can spy a cell tower, the feature here is the osprey nest located at the very top of the tower. I spent about 15 minutes viewing the tower and every once in a while I witnessed an adult osprey poking its head out and moving its wings around; this spot is a great lunch/ picnic area on a day like today.

BONUS PLAY!!! Be sure to swing by "Let's See Some ID" for your opportunity to identify a BIG MOTH!
