Initial plans for a multi-day high lakes traverse in the North Cascades were canceled at the last minute due to a couple inches of fresh snow last week . Quickly decided instead to head to Glacier Peak Wilderness. We thought about doing the popular Spider Meadow/Miner's Ridge loop, but opted for the less traveled and quite difficult Napeequa Valley/High Pass/Buck Creek loop (quite difficult is an understatement, this 'trail' is very steep and hard to follow at times. Good route finding skills and a positive attitude are a must ).
Started at the Little Giant Pass trail head off the Chiwawa River on Thursday morning. The trail up to LGP is long and steep, but well worth the effort as the views down the Napeequa valley are incredible. Camped at Louis Creek in the Napeequa Valley on the first night, then headed up to High Pass on Friday and down to Buck Creek Pass to camp Friday night. There isn't a trail on most maps indicating a route up the North Fork Napeequa, but a fairly established boot path exists.
The drive to the trail head is about six hours from Portland, so a little far for a weekend trip. However, the area is beautiful, rugged and huge. If you're looking for a multi-day get away I highly recommend this area. We will be returning again to do some more exploring.

gorgeous. This is the one area along with Wind River Range
in Wyoming where I would like to do a multi-day backpack
trip the most in the future(well those two and maybe some
trips in the Kings Canyon/Sequoia National Park in the
California Sierras)
BTW weekend_warrior, What part of the North Cascades
were planning to do a trip? Thats another spectacular
gorgeous area.

Thanks for the report. I did this loop about 25 years ago. It sounds like nothing much has changed, except that maybe the boot-made path to High Pass is a little better defined. Your pictures bring back happy memories. (We always forget the pain, don't we?)
