Hamilton Mtn (Don's Cutoff) - 18 Jul 08

Post by VanMarmot » July 22nd, 2008, 11:52 am

I've hiked the loop over and around Hamiliton Mtn numerous times and have always just followed the road down from the saddle to the Hardy Creek Trail (at the picnic table). This time I saw a new-ish sign for "Don's Cutoff", which now appears very faintly on WA park maps.

Taking it allows you to by-pass most of the road. It goes through a nice forested area before joining the old road near the creek

If you've come from the summit of Hamiliton the cutoff sign is obvious. However, if you've come via the lower Hardy Creek trail and are heading up the road, there's no sign, just an old post to the left. Just keep going straight and you'll soon come to a sign board and a sign for the lower terminus of Don's cutoff.

Nope, not me. :D I spotted that trail for the first time a couple of years ago and wondered who the "other" Don was, though. Any one know?
