Beacon Rock and Ramblings...

Post by weathercrazy » February 16th, 2010, 9:00 pm

I stopped by and picked up my new GPS from martell...

Then I headed out to the Gorge...I was going to go by myself, but my sister and her b/f wanted to come, so I figured why not.

The views at Cape Horn were spring like to say the least...

The clouds were in and out, and actually, I was hoping for more clouds to do some night shots...but things worked out well in the end.

Look closely...yes, the bugs are already out!

They weren't too bad though.

The waters were calm and the lighting good...

I swear I had a shadow...

Oh wait, that was Beacon Rock.

We made it up in about 20 minutes, taking time for a few pictures of course.

This view east were nice.

The sun was setting quickly though.

That's when we hit a snag...

...no clouds for my pics.

But...the clear skies and light WARM winds blowing over the cold waters of the Columbia allowed for advection fog to blow over the Columbia lazily. Mainly near Cascade Locks.

The moon was out...

The views were GODLY...

With the next few days being sunny, the trails should dry out some with spring like conditions continuing!

Here's some pictures taken at Beacon Rock last May:

My first "hike" ever.... thought making it to the top was quite the accomplishment for an old, fat guy. Just did Wind and Dog mountains on the same day last week. My wind and endurance seems to be improving while my weight is definitely on the decline. To be honest, I always figured I'd be able to go to the top of Beacon Rock when pigs fly.
