We only got as high as about 1,600 feet so no snow on the trail at all - we saw a couple of small patches in the tangles of brush near the creek, though. I know what you mean about how the snow can melt and fill in the trail with ice. Thomas, Fred and I ran in to some of that on our Benson trek on the 7th. It wasn't too slippery, though, since the temps were in the low 20's.

BTW, nice job getting your pack weight down. The best I've done is about 25 pounds but then I tend to over do it with the thermorest, more clothes than I really need, etc. etc.

Great report & pics! I'd planned on doing North Lake last Friday but didn't because of the impending wetness - Glad you were willing to suffer for (most) of the rest of us. Thanks also for the details of your ultralight pack. It's like being on a diet and not yielding to the temptation of adding "just one more" item to the load...
