Headed out on a sunny Saturday to snowshoe up Eurkea Peak. We started from the Trillium Lake snopark, using just microspikes until we arrived at Sherar Burn road, where we switched to snowshoes after post-holing a bit. The snow wasn't very deep but had a crusty top that sometimes broke through when stepping, which got annoying without snowshoes. We had a view over to Mt Jefferson from the road.
Eureka Peak Trail which was easy to follow in the snow, as it heads straight downhill, so no turns are lost in the snow. We did have to remove our snowshoes for one creek crossing, which was easy to walk over.
We returned via Still Creek Road. There were no other people tracks, lots of animal prints. It was a slow, dull uphill slog back to the junction with Sherar Burn Road where we were happy to switch back to microspikes and move a little faster back to our car.
We hiked cross-country up Eureka Peak, which was steep and slow, but not too bad. Not much of a view at the top.
It was more fun coming down than going up.
