11-3-23 Clear Creek trail 487

Post by ChrisA » November 5th, 2023, 7:19 pm

We started from Clear Creek Campground, crossed the creek on a bridge and followed the trail downstream. There were a couple of boggy spots along the creek. The trail then veers away from the creek and climbs up to near Camas Prairie There is a road here. We went west on a section of road that is closed to motorized vehicles (for wildlife protection) to see if we could access Camas Prairie. We came to a fence of sorts at the edge of the prairie. I figured I could go through it but did not know if there were any restrictions for habitat or restoration. So we had lunch and then continued on to the west and came to a sign for Clear Creek Loop. We took it and ended up back on the Clear Creek trail. There was steep section to get down to the Clear Creek Trail. Overall the trail was in good shape, a few small logs to step over. The creek is very pretty and there were some larch trees showing their colors.

This one left me scratching my head, but then I saw the reference to Camas Prairie -- quite pretty! I'll add that to my list of places to visit.

Appreciate your reports on the lesser-known trails of Mount Hood -- fun to read! Thanks!

Tom :)
