Mt Adams - The Bumper

Post by drm » July 7th, 2023, 3:24 pm

Hiked up to and camped on The Bumper Wednesday night. The Bumper is a prominence just off the PCT and about a mile west of Horseshoe Meadow. You can do a quick and steep XC from the PCT or a longer and more scenic one directly from Horseshoe Meadow by following the creek that flows through the middle of it.

It was hot of course, but not too hot up high, and sometimes there was a nice breeze. But the mosquitoes are out. They are out at the trailhead, in the middle, and worst in the alpine, and getting worse by the day. The PCT is basically melted out, but I think I will probably give Mt Adams a pass till August. The little vampires can feast on the many PCT thru hikers who are doing Washington now since the Sierra is still too snowy.

The spring half way up is running like a firehose. It is the headwaters of the White Salmon River
