Trail Friends Of Herman Creek

Post by Eric Peterson » May 14th, 2023, 2:19 pm

Little hike to check on trail conditions up to Whisky.

Happy to report Herman Creek is very passable all the way to Whisky Creek save a few mid sized easy step overs.

Just need a few extra large ones cut out with a 2 man crew or 1 MCDS, is that cat around anymore? :D

EP!! Good to see you're still out hiking.

BTW, I still use your Gorge mapset all the time.

Hey B-Rad! Thanks for the shout out - had the mapset on my phone using Avenza for a long time but they revamped their app again and now it's hosed. Don't really need it though :D

I still have the baggie of yellow PH buttons you left for me at Tooth Rock years ago, just a few fresh ones left

So great to see a TR from you! I'm also still using your Gorge mapset on my ancient Garmin (though, frankly, it's Gaia more often these days).

@ Robin - that's awesome, I'm using Gaia these days too but did have the mapset loaded onto Avenza and the free USFS maps available.

@ Jerry - I think I could get 2 of the 3 larger logs solo with a 48'' 1 handed cross cut saw ala MCDS. That 3rd gigantic old growth log blocking the trail 3/4 mile from Cedar is a no go solo though...

there was a huge log across Herman Creek Trail just beyond Cedar Swamp Camp. I wonder if that's still there.

It was fairly easy to walk around

@ Jerry - this huge old growth cedar is still here, it has a walk up and over user trail for the last year and half since it's been blocking 406. I hope this is the one you are talking about. It is about 3/4 mile from Cedar heading south towards Whatum...

There was a huge log just beyond Cedar Swamp, at about the "W" on your map, but I haven't been there for a few years
