Deschutes to Free bridge site

Post by drm » March 28th, 2023, 3:44 pm

Hiked along the Deschutes River mostly (not the road - either one) to the old free bridge site on Sunday. It was warmer and less windy than forecast, till late in the afternoon. A very nice day. But the area is slow to green up. The new green grass is usually much more prominent by now.

Not only has it been a cold winter, but that part of the state (from The Dalles down through Crook County) is STILL mired in a severe multi-year drought.

Last I checked, northern Wasco County is not in a drought status, kind of on the edge of "abnormally dry," though down south Crook County is still in serious drought. But it has been a cold winter. Also, this far east, we are usually getting more sunny days by now than we have. The green grass is there if you look close, it is just shorter. Maybe a couple weeks behind typical.
