Rogue River 1/24/2023

Post by retired jerry » February 3rd, 2023, 9:31 am

I spent a few days walking down the Rogue River from Graves Creek.

The road from Merlin and Galice is blocked, so you have to go from Wolf Creek. There is a road block right at the Graves Creek bridge preventing you from driving onto the bridge, but you can get to the trailhead fine. I'm guessing there's a land slide over the road somewhere between the bridge and Galice.

There was rain just one night. It was raining in Portland. Typical pattern. That area gets less rain than here in Portland, and sometimes the rains funnel in more north and avoids southern Oregon.

Boaters floating by. From my campsite:

I've gotten as many ticks on the Rogue River as all other places combined, but didn't get any this time. Maybe too cold - high temp was about 45F

It's a Retired Jerry Classic! I've seen your trips down there so many times, and have never managed to actually get down there myself.
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.

I think Retired Jerry tries to get at least one backpack in every month of every year. That's more ambition than I think I can muster, but I admire it! :D

yeah, I do a Rogue River trip about every year. And I've been doing one backpack trip per month for years.
