Did a two night trip on the north side of Adams last week - during the last heat wave. From Muddy Meadows trailhead went up to a camp just past treeline on the Highline Trail and that afternoon hiked up to Devils Garden area, having to ford the upper muddy fork both directions. It was upper calf deep. Next day in the heat hiked to a camp at Killen Creek. I had thought to hike up to High Camp, but the steep uphill just didn't feel like it would work in the 80s, so I just hiked the PCT over to Adams Creek to watch PCTers dealing with the high water there.
Bugs depended on location. Up at treeline on the Highline there were none, but there were still plenty of flies at Killen Creek. Some people were wearing headnets, though it wasn't that bad for me.

That's a great area. Maybe I can get up there in a few weeks. Thanks for the report
