Sheep Canyon Loop - 2022-08-26

Post by dmthomas49 » August 27th, 2022, 12:31 pm

The weather was great as the clouds were disappearing when we started the hike at 7:30. The temp was 55 degrees. We encountered no mosquitos and no flies. It was a bug free hike and conditions were perfect!

The huckleberries were on the down swing. The best ones were on the higher elevations on the Sheep Canyon Loop.
Flowers were still blooming on the higher elevations.

We spotted 8 mountain goats. It was hard to get good pictures with the zoom on my camera as they were pretty high up the mountain.

Mt Rainier showed itself well today.

The lava dome seems to be growing each time we do this hike.

The clouds were sticking around further West of us.

On the trail just below the large rock at Crescent Ridge, we saw very fresh bear scat and pee marks. It was so recent that it couldn’t have been more than 15 minutes earlier. We kept watch, but saw no bear.

We only saw one other hiker the whole day the last half mile of our hike. It was about 65 degrees when we finished. Perfect weather for a great hike.
