Brice Creek Trail 8-13-22

Post by MagicBandana » August 16th, 2022, 1:13 pm

We were in Cottage Grove and Dorena Lake area to see some covered bridges and decided to stretch our legs a bit, having never been hiking in this area. Pulled off at Cedar Creek campground (https://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/umpqua/ ... ecid=63404) and walked upstream along the trail to Brice Creek Falls where there were lots of folks swimming and playing in the beautiful water. Reminded me of Three Pools along the North Fork of the Santiam, now closed due to fire. (RIP)

If you keep hiking there are more secluded places to dip away from the many people at the first falls, but we hadn't brought our swimming stuff, so just dipped hands and toes and kept going. Turned around after about a mile, so I can't report on the whole trail, but if you've got little kids on a hot day, I'd recommend it. It does appear to go >5 miles, which you could do as a one-way if you had a shuttle.

The parking area was small, no overflow at the campground, so parking can be tough, but it was free to park and there was an outhouse.
You can read about this (#1403, Pg 12) and other hikes in this area here: https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO ... 424106.pdf
