Mary's Peak via North Ridge 07-01-2022

Last weekend we stayed a little closer to home and went up Mary's Peak for the first time. It was a cloudy day at the TH, foggy during a fair part of the steep climb, and blue-sky-top-of-clouds experience at the top. A group of four hikers on the trail, and of course more near the top but the summit parking lot wasn't full. A few quick notes:
  • We had decent phone service most of the climb which was nice since we tend to split up and hike-your-own-hike.
  • I might have missed something, but there isn't a water source along the trail. I took the Meadows Edge loop which takes you down from the summit to the campground. Parker creek starts as a muddy drip, but at the bottom is a running creek. It's not a terribly long hike, but adds some elevation to the day on the way back up. There is also water along the East Ridge/Tie Trail section. It had a good flow, but I don't know what it would be like in high summer.
  • The East Ridge loop trail at the summit parking lot is marked 1388, which is a little confusing depending on the map you are looking at.
  • Trails were clear from top to bottom
  • The birds were singing their heart out all day.
Trail starts on the right just past this sign

This looks new. I believe the Corvallis to the Coast trail went official in the last year or so.

Lots of God Rays near the top

Lots of flowers in bloom

Patches of bear grass appearing as well

Finally the little stream along the Tie Trail

Starting up along the North Ridge makes for a vigorous hike, but the quiet of trail in contrast to the business around the peak makes it worth it.

Thank you for the report. Looks like it was absolutely the perfect time to do that trail.
