Decided to take a shorter hike that was closer to home today. There were plenty of flowers to be seen but the wind made taking pictures a little hard. We only ran into 3 other people while out.

Re: Mill Creek Ridge Preserve 5/30
Thanks for this report. I had Mill Creek Ridge on my list but had never been there. Your report prodded me to get out there yesterday! A fine day but with clouds concealing Adams and Hood. Could see up Mill Creek to Lookout Mountain, Fivemile Butte, Perry Point, etc. Very little wind, a whole family of meadowlarks, and a couple of snakes (yellow-bellied racers).

With views like that, I wish that was closer to my home!
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.
Re: Mill Creek Ridge Preserve 5/30
It's funny, I live almost exactly 6 miles from this trailhead and last week was the first time I have gone up there. I'm tempted to make it a once a week trek with the cost of gas being what it is. Heading to Badger Creek Wilderness, up by Trout Lake, and my other go-to spots along the John Day are getting expensive to do.With views like that, I wish that was closer to my home!

Re: Mill Creek Ridge Preserve 5/30
It's not well-known, or even easy to find. And the parking lot is tiny. After I was shown the area the first time, I had quite a time finding the trailhead since there is no visible sign. It also tends to be pretty windy when the flowers are out.
Re: Mill Creek Ridge Preserve 5/30
Where do you start this hike? I have been to the old Mill Creek Lookout site but that doesn't appear to be close to this.
Re: Mill Creek Ridge Preserve 5/30
From the 4 way stoplight at the intersection of 6th Street and Cherry Heights (at Fred Meyer) you head up Cherry Heights for a smidge short of 6 miles. The parking lot is on the left, it's tiny, up a steep little dirt road, and has no signs until you are looking at the trailhead.
You are correct, it is not near that. The old lookout is about 9-10 miles to the SW as the crow flies.I have been to the old Mill Creek Lookout site but that doesn't appear to be close to this.
