- Sunrise glow on Mt Hood through the trees
Snowshoed this trail Saturday 2/12/22 with a friend, started around 7am from Barlow Pass Sno Park (3 other vehicles in the lot) . The lower trails from Barlow Pass are all easily identifiable, but when you start climbing the Butte it is easy to lose the trails. We were in and out of tracks on the way up. It was extremely steep going up, as we weren't on any trails. Barlow Butte has no views in winter. On the way down we were able to follow trails that were much easier with only one sketchy area. This snowshoe is a hip burner for sure. Make sure you have a map and know how to route find. Finished the snowshoe at 3:30pm (3 other vehicles in the parking area).
Trail markers are great until the last junction for Mineral Jane Ski Trail.
Had the trails all to ourselves.
My stats:
3.22 miles with 1188ft EG in 3hrs 40mins moving time, 4hrs 53mins stopped time and 8hrs 33mins total time.
I would not recommend this trail for young children, nor is it wheel chair accessible. There is no handicap parking available at Barlow Pass Sno Park.
You must have a snow park pass from November 1rst to April 30th ($25/Season, $9/3-day or $4/day) available for purchase at any of the sites listed via the website. There is no bathroom in the winter at Barlow Pass Sno Park.
