It doesn't appear so from the footprints photo, but did you have any problems with mud? I started to hike from Criterion North Trailhead last February and the mud was as bad as I have ever seen in Oregon. It was so bad I turned back despite the long drive to get there.

Do you have coordinates for the location of this sign? By my measure 4.0 miles is in the middle of a BLM section, not at a border.Born2BBrad wrote: ↑January 22nd, 2022, 9:57 pmOnce at the road, I decided to go upriver to where the public land ends, to see if that’s where the sign stating the end of the easement was. Guess what? It was.
Sign indicating end of easement:
So that means the easement allowing pedestrians begins at the locked gate and extends four miles to the point where this section of public land ends.

That pole is at 45.0439807,-121.114627. It's 4.64 miles from Locked Gate.

No problems with mud. I do seem to recall that there was evidence of muddy ruts on the Criterion Crest when I was there before. We’ll see what it’s like if I go there for part two of my exploration.Webfoot wrote: ↑January 27th, 2022, 8:54 amIt doesn't appear so from the footprints photo, but did you have any problems with mud? Adam is correct about the distance and location for the end of the easement. My mileage points were sometimes guesstimates.
Make now always the most precious time. Now will never come again.

I took yesterday afternoon to hike from the locked gate; the green route on your Google Earth overview. It was over 60 degrees, sunny, and dry (no mud). Simply balmy for February. The view of the cliffs at the start of the trail is really nice and a good overlook of the river was within my reach. Gas prices have kept me close to home recently but I am glad I did this one. Thanks Brad.
