Falls Creek

Post by drm » January 22nd, 2022, 4:06 pm

After seeing that Trapper Creek was snowed in with no place to park outside of the snowpark, we went to the turnoff for Falls Creek Falls nearby, and there was room on the side of the road for about a half dozen cars, and nobody was there yet.

The road was under a couple feet of snow and every step was a deep posthole if you weren't walking in the existing snowshoe track, which only resulted in rare postholing. You really do want snowshoes if you want to be able to go where ever.

But we could follow existing tracks most of the time on the gated road. We went a little ways on the hiking trail - to the first bridge. Saw a fair number of people on the way back - nobody had snowshoes, and just stepping out of the track to let somebody pass means postholing about knee deep.

the first bridge maybe a quarter mile from the parking lot, this was our farthest spot.

Falls Creek (Falls Ck Falls would have been about 1.5 miles further)

I was thinking about going there today with snowshoes, but went elsewhere. Maybe next weekend -- the forecast calls for fresh snow this week.

You mentioned parking along the side of the road ... is that triangular pullout area at the junction with the gated road all snowed in? And does the road up from Carson (Wind River Road?) get cleared well in the winter?
