Deschutes River

Post by drm » November 21st, 2021, 8:34 am

It was a sunny and warm (for November) day at the Deschutes yesterday, with temps maybe reaching 60 by afternoon and the breeze dying down. They have done some work in recent months, adding bridges and signage, but you get past that all pretty quickly.

New trailhead sign. The riverside reail is now called Blackberry-Riverside.

new bridge at one of the close-in swampy areas

there is a river here too

on a long dayhike here, you will see one of these too (I saw three). I can imagine many worse jobs than driving one of those.

My typical lunch stop is the old Freebridge site (I think?) about seven miles in. Somebody had driven down the other side to just above the train tracks and was down at riverside on the other side.

Google Lens tells me that this is Great Mullein, though the pictures there don't look exactly the same. It's also sometimes called Cowboy TP. I have used worse.

That's a nice new sign! I used to go out there all the time, but I haven't been out there in years.
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.
