Sheep Canyon – 9-22-2021 – Fungi and Goats

Post by dmthomas49 » October 1st, 2021, 12:53 pm

It was a cool day with high clouds. We could see to the top of St Helens but on the west side the top was partially covered.

With the rains we had, there were many mushrooms and other fungi growing, especially some big ones out the sides of dead trees.

Maples had brilliant colors for the fall. A few flowers remain.

There were about 10 mountain goats visible. The ones closest decided to leave when they saw us and went over the side of the mountain.

It's always fun to spot some goats. I love that frog photo too. For whatever reason - probably just randomness - this summer was filled with up-close frog sightings. I was excitedly checking out a huge one on the Granite Mt trail near Snoqualmie when a few other hikes passed by. I pointed out the frog but they seemed uninterested and may have looked at me funny. Oh well.

Thanks for noting the fall colors too. My wife and I have been out of town and missed a few weekends of fall color hiking, but hopefully we can catch the end of the season.
