Strawberry Mountain Loop 9/16/2021

Post by ioscode » September 30th, 2021, 6:52 pm

Finally decided to this trip https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guid ... _Loop_Hike

I was pleasantly surprised with my experience here. Perfect weather, lots of wildlife, but no bugs (with the exception of tons of butterflies), and some really cool geology. I guess a slight downside was a bit of fire smoke haze preventing any really long views from the summit.

Strawberry lake was looking lovely, but I walked right by it.

The setting at Little Strawberry Lake is kinda magical, if anyone goes to the area, I highly recommend camping there

I may be a grown man who doesn't squeee, but damn baby rocky mountain goats are cute!

Somewhat hazy horizon on the summit of Strawberry Mountain.

In some places... the trail is hardly a trail.

Despite the ruggedness of the trail in a couple stretches where it goes through rock slides, it was all pretty easy to follow the whole way. Things may be different earlier where there is still snow about I guess.

I also made a trail guide video of the loop that shows the loop and camping areas in more detail.

cheers,

They are. I think bear cubs are top-notch: cute, but not so cute that they're nauseating. Kids are right up there, no denying that.

Great trip and very little fire haze. Time to go back to eastern Oregon!
