Ross Lake East Bank Trail - North Cascades NP
Re: Ross Lake East Bank Trail - North Cascades NP
Funny thing about those to-do hike lists. You keep doing hikes on them and yet they don't get any shorter. Somehow that seems to violate the laws of physics.

Yeah, I think 20 years ago I figured I was out of new hikes. Tip: I implore hikers to never venture offtrail. Once you go down that rabbit hole, the hiking plans multiply like...well, you know.
Re: Ross Lake East Bank Trail - North Cascades NP
It's your particular plan, i.e. the excursion up to Desolation Peak, which makes this most appealing. Hope I can manage it some day.

Thanks for the suggestions, I've not done Chelan but I have walked Paulina Lake a few times and it's really beautiful over there. I'm also considering circling Coldwater Lake with my dog if it ever cools off enough. Neither he nor I are young pups.drm wrote: ↑July 23rd, 2021, 10:15 amYes, this is a real issue for some people. If you want to hike more next to the lake, you might consider the Lakeshore Trail along Lake Chelan to the south, out of Stehekin. It's not as flat, but the lake is visible more of the time. And the eight mile loop of Paulina Lake south of Bend is one of the best lake loops around, though it is not a backpacking route.

walking around Timothy Lake is pretty nice. 13 miles. Lots of views

Woof. I don't think I'd be able to sleep! That's so warm!
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.

Nice report. I hiked on the west trail about 25 years ago. Your pics brought back some memories.
