I decided to head up the south side of Mt Adams over the July 4 weekend, the idea being to avoid crowds of people and mosquitoes, at least that was the theory. I went up the Snipes Mtn Trail, the longest and hottest way up since it is almost 100% burned. But the creeks were running fast and cold, so that was a major help. And after 4 miles of burned south-facing slope, you get those series of Gotchen Meadows before you get to the Round the Mountain trail.
Then I turned left for five mostly flat miles to camp in the Salt Creek area, where there is also plenty of water, clear and cold. Even a little shade. I dayhiked up to Horseshoe Meadow - the little creek there is even running mostly clear now.
Mosquitoes were always present but usually in moderate numbers. For my last night I backtracked and camped in the upper Gotchen Meadow, where the buggies were worse.
