Isn't anyone else going to head out and take another pic of the paradise loop sign? We need updates.
I think we're all cowering at home, terrified to step out.
I do recall GoaltechMike likes it warm. Lets get him to do it.

This is a really great hike for those who are equipped to do it, and have good weather on their side.
From the apex of the hike above Mississippi Head, I usually take a straight shot toward Silcox and then down to the lodge instead of rejoining the Timberline Trail near Little Zigzag Canyon.

After two nights on Adams Glacier, I broke camp and laughed at the platform where my tent had been. Snow was melted all around it, leaving a plateau where my tent had blocked the sun.
What? Chip? Actually camping???

Yep, that's fun, following snow gullies down. Beautiful scenery, really a great part of the mountain. Later in the day, when the ski lift is shut down, it's quiet and peaceful. I have never seen another hiker on those variants, until the lodge. I guess that's not shocking. It's a bit adventurous for most hikers, and not on a mountaineer route either.

I've camped for fun just twice as an adult, but several times to extend range. The incident in question was at the red triangle in pic below (I didn't have a summer pic on file), then over to the indicated shortcut that joins the north ridge up high, and on to summit. More than I wanted to do in a single hot buggy summer day.

Did Mississippi Head loop again today (6/30/21). Wow! lots more snow melt since last update on 6/25/21.

- Paradise Park mostly free of snow.
- Zigzag River was the highest I’ve ever seen it. Still fairly easy to cross.
- Passed a guy who said the Sandy River was running very, very high.
- Other tougher crossings might be dangerous. (Eliot, Coe, etc.)

Thanks for the follow up report. That is some ultra-impressive melt-off!

Oh...I'm preparing to do that tomorrow, to see how things look. Now that Brad posted a spoiler, what shall I do? :|

Maybe I should have gone today, and rushed home to beat him to the TR glory.

Chipdown, can you report in on trail conditions as of 6/31?

I went to the ZigZag viewpoint yesterday. Still allot of snow and down trees after little Zig Zag. I decided not to continue on to Paradise with the slow start, and went up along the Zig-Zag Canyon higher than I have done previously, at least right along the Canyon. Then a nice traverse down in the open to the trail at little Zig-Zag.

I went up to just before the rim merged with the next ridge over, where the snow bank narrows:

I did go up and back to Mississippi Head last year, as it was all off trail, seemed good for the Pandemic.
