Kel and I have been slowly working at hiking all the sections of the PCT that somehow we have missed over the years. We started this project last year with some sections on Mt. Adams and have had a lot of fun doing it. I’m pretty much done with the section from Hwy 26 to the north end of Mt. Adams but there’s still a few odd miles I’ve yet to do. Kel has a bit more, but we are whittling it down.
Today, we hiked the section from the end of a spur road (68-620 I think) to about a mile below Big Huckleberry at about 3,600’ elevation - and no snow anywhere.
This is yet another nice surprise and some of the views were great. There are meadows along this route, a huge cliff with lots of nice views and a deep, very old second growth forest the whole way. The trail is never steep and is consistently smooth and well maintained.
We hiked 9 miles total out-and-back with about 1700’ EG out and about 250’ re-climb on the way back.
Temperature at the start was 48 at noon and 55 when we returned at 5 pm. Just about perfect for a hike.
26 trees down, but only three fairly big ones. We had the trail all to ourselves, too. Probably unusual for a day on the PCT.
A few photos. 9.0 miles, 1974’ EG, hike # 48.

I camped on that upper meadow dirt patch last year on my penultimate night coming from White pass to Cascade Locks. Nice view from there. Heading down to do a 200 mile section from Shasta to Belden next Friday. It’s great to keep checking off the sections. Nice work.

I love heat. Hiked the Grand Canyon in 110. Makes the nights not as cold.
