Flower bloom is just starting on the Nick Eaton trail. In about 3-4 weeks, it should be much better.
The chocolate lilies were in abundance on one section of the trail.
Glacier Lilies
Dogwood Bloom
Indian Paintbrush
Also an interesting rock formation.
Down to Bonneville Dam
Nice view of St Helens on the Nick Eaton Ridge Cutoff trail.
Only hiked to the ridge cut off trail then over to Gorton Creek. No snow at the 3000 foot level.
7.8 Miles and 2,800 feet elevation gain.

It is. I don't recall seeing that. Visible from trail?
Re: 5/6/2021 – Nick Eaton Ridge Flower Bloom
I was pretty sure that was an error. I recall it being Gorton. But I'm seeing references to both Gordon and Gorton. Is there really a Gordon and Gorton? Probably not. I know some geographical names are vague, and it can be tricky to determine what's correct (e.g. Coalman Glacier vs Coleman Glacier). Is this such a case?dmthomas49 wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 5:02 amOnly hiked to the ridge cut off trail then over to Gordon Creek.

It is quite visible from the trail through the burned trees.

I think someone changed the name on me by doing a replace all including signs. All these years, I have not been hiking on the trail I thought I was!Chip Down wrote: ↑May 8th, 2021, 11:03 amI was pretty sure that was an error. I recall it being Gorton. There is a "Gordon Creek" that flows into the Sandy River. I think it is good to promulgate the difference to reduce confusion.
Re: 5/6/2021 – Nick Eaton Ridge Flower Bloom
Not that it makes much difference, but the yellow version of those flowers in the second photo are called Glacier Lilies, while the white version are called Avalanche Lilies. It took me the longest time to memorize which color went with which name.

Would be nice if we could get some boots on the Casey Creek Trail to make that loop easier to find. Last time I tried it from Herman Creek, I lost the trail after about 100 yards and gave up.
You know since Chip is so hard on his hiking shoes, I bet he could make one pass of the trail and it would be hikable again.

My buddy says " Avalanche for Albino" (ie, the white flowers). I'll still probably forget.
Believe it or not, I barely ever ride a mountain bike.
