Knebal Spring Trail

Post by drm » May 2nd, 2021, 11:53 am

This trail in the eastern section of MH NF was of interest to me because from my home in The Dalles, it's a pretty quick romp over to it. Directions always come from FR 44 one direction or the other to the southern trailhead, but I can head south from town and be at the northern trailhead, Knebal Spring Campground, in 23 miles of mostly smooth gravel.

After a chilly and breezy night at the campground, the trail goes from between campsites 6 and 7. Some nice flowers early on, some open forest, and I hit my limit of snow about a mile before Perry Point, my gps said 4450'. Will be heading back to explore this local area more.

Good to see a tr from Knebal. I haven’t been down that way since just before the forest shutdown last year.

Flowering bush looks like manzanita to me. Nice trip.
