NO DOGS ALLOWED!!! The old trail is closed for restoration. Visited this area and hiked to McCall Point Tuesday 4/13/21. Got to the TH (Rowena Crest parking round about) at 4am (no other vehicles). Road accessible to any vehicle. No handicap parking available, not wheelchair accessible (the trail is gravel and dirt), would be ok for small children but the trail does get narrow with some steep dropoffs. There is no parking fee required here. There were also no signs saying the TH was closed in April (read on a website that the trail is closed in the wet months). Made it up to McCall Point at 5:39am (1hr 10 mins hike up). This trail is great for the amount of elevation gain in a short distance, it's a steady incline the whole way. The views are amazing on the way up as well as at the point and the trails are very well maintained. Saw 8 deer on trail after sunrise, heard wild turkey and eagle or hawk cry at sunrise and heard coyote before sunrise. Had the point and most of the trails to myself (saw a mother and her young son at 7:47am close to the parking area). This trail is so beautiful and easily a new favorite. McCall point is a great spot for a sunrise hike as it affords views to the east. Mt Hood and Mt. Adams were visible from the point. Made it back to the parking area at 8:08am, there was one other vehicle at Rowena crest and 1 vehicle at Rowena Plateau TH. Wildflowers are blooming, please remember not to pick, disturb, trample or lay in the flowers as it can damage their regrowth for years to come. Always remember pack it in, pack it out, leave no trace and leave the trails better than you found them. 3.54 miles w/990ft EG.
