Tamolitch Blue Pool via Mckenzie River Trail via Tamolitch TH

Post by Solofemalehiker35 » January 20th, 2021, 10:32 pm

Tamolitch Trailhead; visited Monday 1/18/2021. Arrived at the TH at 6:21am, first car in the parking lot. There are two not very clean vaulted toilets here. No handicap parking. Parking enough for 5+ vehicles. The tamolitch TH is just uphill for the bathrooms. No fee required here. No trash available here so remember to pack it in pack it out, leave no trace and leave the trails better than you found them (picked up dog poo and other items from this TH, and stepped in dog poo some owner left behind 😡.). From the TH the pool is 4.35 miles with 358ft elevation gain. When I arrived the temp was 28 degrees, when I left it was 35. When I got back to my car around 10am there were 3 other vehicles in the lot. Most people were socially distancing or wearing masks.

Mckenzie River Trail; Beautiful trail. I had it all to myself until around 9am, then I saw 6+ people. Bikers are allowed on a biker trail. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on a leash, also please pick up after your pup's (I found several bags of dog poo on the trail among other trash). Lots of beautiful attractions to see from the trail. There are several access points. This trail is not handicap accessible. Good trail for young children but there are cliff areas. Great camp options along the trail for backpackers.

Tamolitch Blue Pool; Had the pool all to myself. The hike in is not handicap accessible, but would be good for small children. Dogs are allowed, but must be kept on leash. There is a separate trail for bikers to the pool. Can access the pool via Mckenzie River Trail. There are several beautiful viewpoints of the pool. (picked up several dog poo bags, beer bottles, tp, micro trash and women's feminine products 😭 from the trail). This is a must see if you're in the area. 4.35 miles with 358ft elevation gain.

Anyone who picks up dog poo bags, feminine products, and beer bottles deserves a special commendation. Glad you had a relatively unpopulated visit, though.

Yes, thank you for your stewardship from a [kinda] local! That trail gets a lot of use but is glorious.
