Railcar Falls, Duncan Creek

Post by Chip Down » January 9th, 2021, 8:41 pm

Returned to the Railcar Falls vicinity today, looking for a scenic open ridge I spotted last time I was up here. I guess my memory is fuzzy. I thought it was west of Duncan Creek, slightly above Railcar Falls. Maybe I'll take another stab at it. I wasn't too disappointed; there was no snow, and my goal ridge may very well be a brushy hell that requires snow for easy travel.

As has been my style of late, I took a bike. Offtrail travel with a bike adds another layer of challenge. Lots of zigging and zagging, avoiding steep spots and brushy routes. The easy return to the car made it worthwhile.

Forecast said windy and mostly sunny. Was nearly overcast, and mostly calm, with a few moderately breezy moments. That's three in a row where I was overdressed due to forecast.

Other parties: Ha!

Last time I was at the McCloskey dam, I couldn't get this close (overgrown) . Winter has its advantages.
